Situated in a peaceful area of Castleton, not far from Rochdale, Rakewood House Care Home is a friendly care home that offers residential, nursing, residential dementia and nursing dementia care.

Built on the site of an old textile mill, Rakewood House can be found in a quiet area of Castleton. With Rochdale in close proximity, there are plenty of choices for entertainment outside of the home. With the grounds at Rakewood House, there are large wheelchair-friendly landscaped gardens along with a furnished patio for those lazy summer days.

    Living with us

With sitting rooms, space for Residents to pursue their hobbies and interests and lovely dining rooms to choose from, Rakewood House has a host of places in which to relax, dine, exercise, socialise and be creative. The pretty landscaped garden and patio is the perfect spot to spend time with friends and family, and is happily looked after by some of our Residents. The bright, comfortable bedrooms and living areas are all easily accessible by wheelchair. The home’s caring team has created a family atmosphere, encouraging everyone to eat and celebrate special occasions together. Residents are invited to decorate their rooms with small items of their own furniture and treasured belongings so that it feels just like home. Daily life is thoughtfully designed to support mind, body and soul.

    Person centred care

We are a company of Christian values that embraces cultural diversity. We have person centred care plans, celebrating each person’s life. We are specialists in dementia care and nursing support. Bloomcare believes that the care of older adults should be designed to respond to a broader perspective of family and resident based concerns, targeting not only improved longevity but improved quality of life.We believe that every person has a gift to share. Coming into care is not the end of life. It is the beginning of another journey.

Bloomcare believes that the care of older adults should be designed to respond to a broader perspective of family and resident based concerns, targeting not only improved longevity but improved quality of life. Each support plan is as unique as the people we care for, incorporating the dignity and wellbeing of every person in our home.

    Lifestyle

Life is a celebration where everyday is to be enjoyed and where the focus is on abilities, not limitations. Rather than emphasising a loved one’s declining abilities, we wish to for each person to be involved in their care, celebrating achievements on a daily basis.

When you focus on making life a celebration for a loved one, you’ll find that unique opportunities open up for emotional and cognitive stimulation, personal connections and most of all, joy.

We find ways to involve residents in family celebrations and special occasions. and if a person cannot attend a family event, we encourage the family to provide photographs and music of the event.

In addition to involving a loved one in celebrating milestones such as birthdays, the birth of a grandchild, weddings or Christenings, it’s also important to look for ways to celebrate life every day.

We encourage every person to accomplish a daily task, even one as simple as choosing what they would like to wear for the day.We encourage our residents to spend time outside and enjoy the beauty of nature in a beautiful setting. Enjoy a meal together and talk about what you’re grateful for.

    Activities & Events

The home also runs a weekly programme of events, which includes talks and demonstrations from local people willing to share their knowledge and talents.

Performers from the area regularly visit and entertain residents with songs, sketches, singing and dancing, and members of neighbourhood groups, volunteers and other locals often drop in for a cup of tea and a chat. We organise a varied year round programme of things to do and with residents take pleasure in hobbies including baking, writing, gardening, dancing, painting, quizzes and playing chess.
Simple daily pleasures are hugely important such as the morning walk, feeding the birds, light weeding, baking, laying the dining table, arranging flowers or distributing the post.

We also respect that our residents value having some time alone too and we want these moments to be as joyful as any other

    Food and Nutrition

As we age, our nutritional needs change. Some reasons relate to the aging process itself, some to physical ability and some to cognitive impairment.

Many elderly people recognise that their body has started to work less efficiently and 71% of over 65s globally have stated a willingness to modify their diet to improve their overall health. Therefore, when it comes to choosing the right type of food we consider the two C’s - calories and convenience.

Each meal should be calorie rich (in most cases) to help maintain body mass. By combining a nutritious foods (in a smoothie or similar) and making sure that food is soft, bite-size or can be eaten by hand is a convenient way to make sure resident recieve all the nutrients that they need.
